Spay/Neuter Assistance Program
Each year, thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies end up in shelters because people cannot afford to spay or neuter their pets. Although Hopalong & Second Chance Animal Rescue is able to help hundreds of these animals each year avoid uncertain fates in the shelter system, we still have dreams of doing more.
Therefore, on World Spay Day 2013, Hopalong launched our new Spay/Neuter Program providing spay/neuter assistance vouchers to low-income families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford to have their pets fixed. Low-income families can apply for the opportunity to have one of Hopalong’s veterinary partners spay/neuter their animal for free or at a discounted price, depending on their household income.
We know that by assisting owners who otherwise couldn’t afford the surgeries, we will help keep these pets in their homes and prevent potential offspring from entering the shelter system. Our goal this first year is to spay/neuter 50 animals, preventing approximately 250 additional unwanted puppies/kittens from entering an over-crowded shelter system. With this program, we hope to help ease the life of Bay Area animals, animal owners, and animal shelters.
If you have questions about our program or if you would like to apply to receive assistance, you can fill out an application on-line or call us at 510-267-1915 to have an application mailed to you. Once we receive your application, it will take about a week for us to process the voucher. Please be prepared to show proof of income in the form of a pay-stub or unemployment stub.
