Ned is a ~2 1/2 year old male Llasa Apso. He was rescued off the streets of Oakland where he had been surviving for months based on his severely matted hair.
He is feeling so much better after a haircut, a couple of weeks of sleeping in a warm soft bed, and eating good food. He has blossomed into a lovely little dog. He is smart, funny and affectionate. He is strong and athletic and makes for good company on hikes (within reason - he’s little). He is crate trained and learned basic manners like “sit” and “stay” in just a couple of days.
Ned will require an experienced home and like most Llasa’s, he needs a strong pack leader to show him the way. He was a little protective and growly around food and toys at first, but after just one week of some basic training, he has become trusting and affectionate, lies on his back for tummy rubs and gives gentle kisses. Because of his breed and his initial growliness, we think it would be safest if he had a forever home without children.
There is a cat in his foster home whom he wants to chase so he is getting training on “kitty NO!” His early response to behavior work has been very promising. On a leash, he’ll already focus on treats and allow the cat to walk by. We think he would learn to be ok with more training, but a house without cats would be easier. He has been friendly and non-reactive around other dogs, and he would probably enjoy a playmate although he seems happy enough with his little ducky.
