Spencer is a one year old adorable dog who loves playing, snuggling, and being social.
When it comes to intelligence he’s very smart. He’s both leash and potty trained. He is trained to go outside and use potty mats. The only accident Spencer has had was due to human error— not having a mat down and he confused a mat with a small throw rug that looked like a mat. He was smart to find the next closest option. He also got our dog stairs immediately. Most dogs are initially afraid of stairs but he just goes for it. He also rides in the car well and just sits in the backseat curled up.
While he will go on walks he is a bit skittish to leave the house. While he is energetic and loves to play he is a homebody. I have wondered if he accidentally snuck out of a house in East Oakland and that’s how he was lost. The neighborhood 'Nextdoor' post says he kept wanting to sneak into this woman’s house to seek shelter so maybe he is afraid of being homeless again. Who knows.
Since we have had him his confidence has grown. When we first got him he didn’t play with toys. Then he started playing with shoes and quickly learned shoes are not toys and transitioned to playing with dog toys. Now only dog toys. He’s learned a lot in a very short amount of time.
While playing with adults he is very gentle however, he’s still getting used to his body and his super cute long legs can sometimes accidentally kick you when snuggling and playing so just to be mindful with children. He loves to play with dogs but because he is still young he is also learning puppy social cues. He can try to dominate other dogs that are very submissive. With my dog he is not that way at all. He can get a smidge territorial with toys but again it just seems like puppy awkwardness and he’s learning.
Overall, Spencer is the easiest dog that I have ever fostered and I love him. His long legs and his adorable snaggle tooth make him absolutely the cutest! He is an angel and a delight.
